face cancer

Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Skin cancer. Face of a patient after surgical removal of a skin cancer from his nose. The most common form of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, usually appears on the face and is thought to be caused by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. It slowly destroys surrounding tissues, but seldom spreads to other parts of the body. Other treatments for skin cancer include cauterization, cryotherapy or radiotherapy. For the patient before surgery, see M131/567

This woman is Chantal Sebire. She died today, after a battle with the French courts to let a doctor euthanize her. The government and French courts denied her request. The cause of her death was unknown, if natural it was presumably from the face cancer she was suffering from.
